Getting around HNL
Terminals
Terminal 1 (mostly Hawaiian Airlines) and Terminal 2 (other airlines and international arrivals).
Changing terminals
Terminals 1 and 2 are connected inside security by walkways and the free Wiki Wiki Shuttle. On the way between them, carry-on bags pass a USDA agriculture check.
Customs and international arrivals
Arriving from abroad, you clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), collect your checked bags, drop them at the recheck belt and go through TSA security again before your connection. International flights arrive at Terminal 2.
Tips for connecting at HNL
- •Flying to the mainland, bags go through a USDA agriculture inspection: most fresh fruit and plants can't come with you.
- •The Skyline rail station opened in October 2025 between Terminals 1 and 2.

HNL connection FAQ
Airlines set their own official minimums at HNL and only sell connections that meet them, so a one-ticket itinerary is always "legal". In practice we recommend at least 50 min for a domestic connection, 1 h 5 min when you change terminals and 2 h 20 min after an international arrival.
