230 V is about twice the 120 V of the United States. Chargers marked 100–240 V (phones, laptops, cameras) only need an adapter; single-voltage devices such as hair dryers and straighteners need a converter, or bring dual-voltage ones.

The United Kingdom runs at 50 Hz, the United States at 60 Hz. Chargers don't mind, but clocks and some motorized appliances may run at the wrong speed.
